Graduate Program in Science Education

Research Groups

The Interdisciplinary Study and Research Group in Science Education and Inclusion maintains a close relationship with the area of concentration of the Graduate Program in Science Education. The group includes faculty members and students from the program, as well as from undergraduate teacher education programs in Physics, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, and Mathematics at UNIFEI.

It is dedicated to studies and research focused on Science Education from the perspective of inclusive education. The group develops research related to the use of assistive technologies in teaching–learning processes, teacher education from an inclusive perspective, conceptions of inclusion, and pedagogical practices.

PPGEC Faculty Members involved: Denise Pereira de Alcântara Ferraz and Eliane Matesco Cristóvão

This group aims to support studies and research on Teacher Education and Educational Practices in Science and Mathematics, conducted by its members and their supervisees, fostering a rich environment for discussion among undergraduate and graduate students, as well as a diversity of theoretical and methodological approaches.

This group is structured into three research areas:

i) Gender, History, and Philosophy of Science and Mathematics and their articulations with teacher education and/or educational practices;

ii) Science and Mathematics Teacher Education;

iii) Innovative Educational Practices in Science and Mathematics.

This group aims to understand the different theoretical and methodological perspectives and articulations between the fields of Science Education and Environmental Education. In particular, it seeks to develop research that contributes to the construction of knowledge on socio-environmental issues and educational processes.

It also analyzes conceptions and discursive practices related to socio-environmental themes and Science Education present in educational proposals, pedagogical practices, and teaching materials, with the aim of exploring the meanings and understandings that have been historically and socially constructed around these themes.

TeCDEC develops studies and research aimed at understanding the relationships between Digital Information and Communication Technologies (DICT) and Science Education across different educational contexts, considering elements of digital culture that influence, transform, and redefine these contexts.

This group is part of the Education and Technologies research area within the Graduate Program in Science Education at the Federal University of Itajubá (UNIFEI). It brings together faculty members, students, and technical staff from UNIFEI, as well as Basic Education teachers, fostering theoretical and practical discussions that contribute to improving educational processes mediated by DICT.

Its research areas include:

  1. Mobile Technologies and Remote Experimentation;
  2. Curriculum, Narratives, and Technologies;
  3. Technology-Mediated Active Methodologies.

The Research Group focuses on the use of technological resources in the context of disciplines within the Exact and Earth Sciences at both basic and higher education levels, conducting studies on their potential applications, contexts of use, and effectiveness as learning resources, among other aspects. The group is particularly dedicated to the practical and technical dimensions of technological applications in education, going beyond theoretical discussions and proposals by emphasizing their implementation and investigating the stages of the process in a broad and comprehensive manner.
