Mission and Objectives
Mission:
The Graduate Program in Science Education aims to produce high-quality scientific knowledge in the field of Science Education and to train master’s and doctoral graduates who are capable of planning and conducting research and teaching activities in higher education and basic education, as well as science communication initiatives grounded in theoretical and methodological frameworks from the field of Education, particularly Science Education.
PPGEC graduates—both at the master’s and doctoral levels—are expected to promote the dissemination of a scientific and technological culture through critical, innovative education aligned with the needs and goals of building a democratic society guided by socio-environmental justice.
Objectives:
a) To train researchers, teachers, and educators who can contribute both to the production of knowledge in Science Education and to improving its quality across different levels and modalities of education, in school and non-school contexts.
b) To propose and develop research that critically examines Science Education, grounded in theoretical and methodological frameworks consistent with the Program’s research lines.
c) To promote educational proposals and practices guided by the goal of building democratic and socio-environmentally just societies, contributing to the democratization of critical access to scientific knowledge and technological products.
d) To prepare researchers and educators for work in higher education, in basic education school settings, and in non-formal contexts, through the analysis and development of educational processes and products aimed at improving science and technology education.
e) To disseminate the results of research projects and the educational practices arising from investigations developed within the PPGEC, particularly through publications in various scientific communication media and other channels for disseminating scientific and technological outputs and practices.
